Signs of Sight Loss

Having good eyesight is essential for participating in daily life. However, sight loss can occur for various reasons, leaving you unable to fully participate in the things you love. Certain conditions that cause sight loss do not have any early symptoms. That’s why it’s essential to maintain routine eye exams to monitor your vision and eye health. At Shippee Family Eye Care in Montpelier, we can test your eyes and determine if sight loss may be occurring. Here are some common signs of sight loss.

Eye Pain or Redness

Pain or redness in your eyes is usually associated with glaucoma. Glaucoma is an eye disease associated with an increase in eye pressure, damaging the optic nerve. If the condition progresses, it could lead to loss of sight.

Distorted Vision

Distorted vision is one of the signs of a severe eye condition occurring that could lead to blindness.

Blurry Vision

Blurry vision is an indication of a vision problem, which could eventually lead to blindness. For example, you may begin to see a straight line looking wavy.

Color Fading

If you start seeing colors that are faded or have a yellowish tint, contact our eye clinic immediately. Color fading is usually associated with cataracts which may lead to sight loss.

Other signs of sight loss include:

  • Decrease in vision
  • Itching or burning eyes
  • Difficulty looking at near or distant objects
  • Sensitivity to light and glare
  • Seeing halos around the light
  • Seeing floaters
  • Hazy vision
  • Change in your eye color
  • White areas in the pupil
  • Double vision

Because these signs don’t necessarily mean you will suffer sight loss, you should visit us for a proper diagnosis.
