7 Signs You Might Have Eye Cataracts

7 Signs You Might Have Eye Cataracts

Cataracts are not an uncommon occurrence among seniors. The good news is that an eye doctor on our optometry team at Shippee Family Eye Care can diagnose this condition during an eye exam. If you’re having trouble with your vision, schedule a checkup at our eye clinic in Lancaster, NH, Littleton, NH, St. Johnsbury, VT, or Montpelier, VT, to evaluate your sight. The following are some signs to watch out for to indicate you may have cataracts.

Signs of Cataracts

Cataracts often start small and escalate over time. In their early stages, you may not notice any symptoms at all. As your condition worsens, you may experience these symptoms:

Cloudy Eyes: A telltale sign of cataracts is the clouding of the lens of your eye. Your eyes may appear opaque or milky due to the cloud forming over the lens of your eye.

Blurred Vision: Cataracts cover the lens of your eye, blocking out light needed for clarity of sight. As a result, your vision becomes blurry, hazy or cloudy.

Double Vision: Double vision is yet another sign of cataracts. Cataracts can cause double vision in one eye, distorting your sight.

Glare or Halos Around Lights: Increased glare and halos around lights, particularly at night, could be a sign of cataracts. These symptoms can make it difficult to drive at night.

Fading Colors: People with cataracts often have difficulty distinguishing colors as they appear faded, dull or washed out.

Sensitivity to Light: Cataracts can cause increased glare and sensitivity to light, making it difficult to be around bright lights.

Poor Night Vision: When you have cataracts, it’s more difficult to see in the dark. The cloudy lens of your eye can accentuate shapes in the darkness, making it hard to see at night.

If you believe you are developing cataracts, get it treated to help maintain your vision. An “optometrist near me” on our team can give you an eye exam and guide you on your next steps.
